We had a very interesting tour through the building of the Naples Daily News on October 9 2015. The Bonita Banner and the Marco Eagle are also printed there.
We saw all the different departments from advertising, marketing to the newsroom and printing. The most interesting part, especially for us Swiss citizens, was the printing machine, which is more like a huge entity of many different machines and assembly belts. It was manufactured and installed by Wisag, a Swiss company domiciled in Fällanden. It took a whole year to install this complex machinery and we were all admiring its magnitude and intricacy.

A printing roll of paper weighs 2500 lb and we saw quite a few of those. Naples Daily News prints about 50,000 to 80,000 copies per day, depending on the day of the week, and season.

At the end of this captivating tour we saw all the printed Bonita Banners, ready to be delivered the following day, coming from the belts.

This enjoyable event was completed by a delicious dinner at the Watermark Grille, a 17year old Landmark Restaurant nearby, which was founded by 4 brothers from Chicago who inherited their father’s love of cooking.

We all had a good time and our thanks go to Swiss Club Secretary Rosmarie Strother for organizing this educating event.
