About the Authors:
Hedwig Vicki Burkhard was born in Switzerland, and grew up in a family of eight, cultivating a deep passion for travel and culture. She pursued an apprenticeship in photography, later earning a master’s degree in marketing. Her career spanned sales, advertising, and photography before she emigrated to Hawaii in 1991 and co-founded the Swiss Café. She later built a corporate career in California and established an international consulting firm. Today, she manages vacation rentals in Switzerland, operates a Bed & Breakfast in Jamaica, and serves on the board of the Swiss American Club in Southwest Florida.
Lily Kraft was born in, Switzerland, as the eldest of three siblings. After earning a degree in Business Administration, she studied in England, where she met Hedwig. In Switzerland, Lily managed an office supply store and worked in administration before moving to Hawaii in 1991. She co-founded the Swiss Café and later ran a successful cleaning business with her husband, Peter. In California, she operated a pet grooming business for 13 years. Now living in Fort Myers, she serves on the Swiss American Club board, volunteers, grooms pets part-time, and enjoys life with her partner, Mike.
